Controlled Test Tips

The controlled test will be issued tomorrow (Friday 27th) in your Media lesson. Make sure you pick it up at lunchtime or after school if you're in the Art exam all day.

There's bound to be a task in the exam where you have to design your own music magazine front cover. What you see above is a typical cover where some of the key features you'd expect to see have been highlighted. These can act as a checklist for what you need to remember to include (click on it to enlarge). When annotating and analyzing your covers, though, make sure you do more than just label them (as is done here) but that you explain why these features have been chosen and what their purpose/effect is on the target audience.

Also useful are the links we provided you with when you were doing the mock as you will also be expected to show you know what the conventions of music magazines are and how they have developed over time...

Mock Exam Tips

Finally, don't forget to use the Music Press Links when researching the topic on the internet. They will provide you with just about everything you need to know (along with the notes and handouts you've received in lessons).

Music Press Competition

Well done to the following six students who have each won a £15 cash prize for producing the best Music Magazine Covers in the competition we ran over the Easter holiday. They are excellent productions and should provide you all with some ideas about how to construct them in the exam (which you'll almost certainly be asked to do). Look carefully at each one, consider the conventions they use and how they address their target audiences.

Then please also post up comments on them, saying which you think is the very best and why...
